At Hurst Green School we also have a Nursery Class. The Nursery is staffed by a fully qualified teacher, supported by a highly experienced team. If you would like to come and visit our nursery please telephone the school office on 01883 712171 and we will arrange a convenient time for you to come and look around.

Children can start in our Nursery as follows:

From the term they turn three:

If your child has FEET (Free Early Education for Two Year Olds) funding your child can start with us in this term. If your child does not have FEET funding, you can opt to pay for up to 15 hours a week for this term. The cost would be £15 per 3 hour session and there is a minimum requirement of 3 sessions per week for continuity for your child.

From the term after your child turns three:

Every child is then entitled to 15 hours a week funded early education, over 38 weeks of the year (term time). Our nursery sessions  run every morning from 9:15am to 12:15pm.

2 year old places:

We are now delighted to announce that we are able to offer self funded places from the term after your child turns two.  These would be morning sessions from 9.15am - 12.15pm and the cost would be £15 per 3 hour session. There is a minimum requirement of 3 sessions per week for continuity for your child.

Free places are also available for FEET funded two year olds.

Offers of Nursery places are sent directly from the school before your child is due to start. Once you have confirmed in writing that you accept the place, you will be contacted to confirm your child's starting date and offer a home visit. You and your child will have the opportunity to visit the Nursery prior to starting.

Young children learn best when they are actively involved in an integrated curriculum, of which carefully structured play is an important part. The children in the Nursery start with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, with the prime areas of learning being:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

Our Nursery has its own separate area within the school and a large, dedicated playground and garden area providing a stimulating learning environment specially geared to the Nursery age group. Whilst it is self-contained, the children are included in some activities within the main school such as special performances, helping them with their transition to infant school.
